State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said experimental bio-metric registration of Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards have been launched in all customer care centers of different mobile operators on an experimental basis on Sunday.
The state minister informed this to reporters while visiting the customer care centers of some mobile phone operators in Gulshan area of the city.
“As per our previous decisions, the authorities concerned of all mobile phone operators have started their SIM re-registration using the biometric system from Sunday on experimental basis. They will officially launch it on December 16,” she said.
The re-registration process will continue till April, 2015 and mobile phone operators will be fined for every unregistered SIM card after the deadline, Tarana Halim said.
Earlier on October 21, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, inaugurated the test operation of the biometric registration system of mobile phone SIM cards.
